Dr Newman will ask you about your current symptoms and your prior health history. He will ask you about:
previous treatments and their efficacy
other medical problems
family and social history
You should allow at least one hour when being seen by Dr Newman for the first time. Your appointment will include a consultation, physical exam and specific allergy and asthma testing if needed.
If Dr Newman has suggested that you may need a skin prick test at the first appointment (to help identify what you may be allergic to) you will be asked to avoid oral medicines/medicines containing active ingredients for at least five days (e.g. antihistamines).
Other than for a skin prick test you will not need to bring anything to your appointment except an up-to-date medication list. It is useful to bring any other information about your other health conditions such as hospital discharge summaries, if available.
In order to see Dr Newman you will need a referral from your GP, which is valid for 12 months. Alternatively, you may be referred from another non-GP doctor, but the referral is only valid for 3 months from the time of your first visit.
If you need to reschedule or cancel an appointment, please give the clinic 24 hours’ notice.
For non-urgent matters please leave a message with the answering service. In the event of a serious medical problem contact 13 HEALTH or your local GP after hours’ service, or if a medical emergency please call 000.
